I arrived in Konya on Monday. This is a very different city compared to the two other cities I visited previously. It’s a very exciting experience, a mixture of tradition and modernity.
Unfortunately, Amazon countries didn’t reach an agreement to end deforestation by 2030. Although Sunak also plans to expand oil exploration, any comparison between him and Lula da Silva is an insult to Lula, given his achievements in reducing deforestation during 2023 (Sunak thinks about votes only and so cannot be part of any plan). Governments, such as the current Brazilian government, which is committed to environmental issues, should be incentivized to move away from oil explorations and toward a green economy. And a green economy doesn’t mean opposing growth, instead seeking growth thru other channels, replacing oil profit with more sustainable profit. And this is a trade-off.
Sunak should be reminded what trade-off means. Insisting to get something at all costs, inevitably removes other opportunities.
