Netanyahu calculated that World War 3 between West and Israel on one side and Iran’s forces and possibly Russia on the other hand, would be the winning card for Netanyahu to push Palestinians to neighboring countries and free Israel forever. West, he calculated, will have no other option but to back them and, as he insisted when meeting with the German chancellor and British PM, it would be a war against darkness (new nazis) and the West and this is precisely what Israel needs, he thought. He also calculated that the world’s public opinion could not side with the Palestinian people when Iran entered the war.
Things didn’t go as planned though. Mainly, because there will be a third front consisting of those who condemn both Hamas/Iran and Israel. When the war starts Netanyahu shouldn’t count on the world’s public opinion (and therefore West’s unconditional support for Netanyahu’s World War 3) because there will be a third front that advocates the idea that Israel and Iran are both responsible for the disaster. The world’s public opinion will side with them, no doubt. The US doesn’t want another Vietnam or Iraq and the world doesn’t want World War 3. So dragging Iran to war will not be the solution to Netanyahu’s problems.
