I read this morning that GPU producers are manufacturing GPUs specifically designed for AI processing. From the energy point of view, AI is very similar to cryptocurrency mining. The Energy required to process AI tasks is becoming a big issue, very much like mining Bitcoin. The difference is that PoW can be replaced with other less energy-consuming consensus mechanisms, while energy consumption in AI applications will always remain high. The solution is to use AI to boost demand for renewable energy. PoW gradually became more and more centralized, as big mining pools emerged. The process in AI should be reversed. It means from early on, big pools operating based on renewable energy should be built (funded globally) to carry out computations, instead of each cell phone or laptop doing calculations separately. Those pools can be built in Africa or the middle east where huge solar panels for example can be installed (as mentioned before funded globally- they will be collectively owned). So it’s important to design the platform in such a way that pushes the energy demand toward renewable energy by constructing those pools. Also, it’s important to ask people like Sadiq Khan (who have proved their commitment to environmental preservation) to be involved in this project.
Fortunately, there are numerous prominent Indian-British individuals. It’s important to gather them together as India is an important country. The connection between India and Britain is beyond individuals.
