Elections are not only to elect new representatives. During elections, new political pathways should be established so people are heard more effectively. Elections adjust people’s role in politics. And since there have been so many technological advancements recently, one should expect that new political pathways will radically change the means people express themselves in politics. After university unrest and global concerns about the Rafah military action, the US agrees to send a billion-dollar worth of military package to Israel. People will think to themselves, they are not being heard properly. New pathways should be built, they may conclude.

Putin appoints an economist as war minister to sort out economic aspects of the war. He may also need to get advice from mathematicians to avoid miscalculations of the war policies.

Populism in politics considers the most immediate challenges to please the public and ignores the underlying causes or greater damages those policies will cause in the future. While the security threats from Hamas against Israel can be prevented by alternative approaches, pursuing military action that will ignite antisemitism worldwide doesn’t aim to support Jewish people around the world but to please certain audiences.

On Holocaust Memorial Day, world leaders should offer more than a show of support. They should prevent future social turbulence that may harm the Jewish community.

There are so many forces inside Israel and a push from outside is necessary. Biden has always said he wouldn’t use military deals as leverage to persuade the Israeli side. Things have changed.
