Division of labor was suitable for a non-autonomous world. A highly inflexible job description is the essence of what division of labor is all about. On the contrary, in an autonomous world flexibility and the ability to reshape based on the ever-changing situations is critical to improve efficiency.
Uber for example is based on division of labor. Inflexible job descriptions for drivers remove lots of earning opportunities for drivers. The rate of time wasted, waiting for the next ride is high. To increase the earnings of drivers, one solution is trying to reduce costs. But the better way is to change the corporate structure so that the waste rate is minimized (by providing earning opportunities in other areas, for example, platform maintenance, etc). This requires moving from the division of labor toward a more flexible AI-driven structure. This can be expanded to all types of services. So the new Uber (or whatever it will be called) is not merely about riding, instead, it’s about delivery from point A to point B, for any type of service.
This cannot be added to the current Uber platform as a new feature, this requires a new platform developed from scratch providing new opportunities.
