W4 – 10 Aug 2023 – Platform

I read this morning that GPU producers are manufacturing GPUs specifically designed for AI processing. From the energy point of view, AI is very similar to cryptocurrency mining. The Energy required to process AI tasks is becoming a big issue, very much like mining Bitcoin. The difference is that PoW can be replaced with other less energy-consuming consensus mechanisms, while energy consumption in AI applications will always remain high. The solution is to use AI to boost demand for renewable energy. PoW gradually became more and more centralized, as big mining pools emerged. The process in AI should be reversed. It means from early on, big pools operating based on renewable energy should be built (funded globally) to carry out computations, instead of each cell phone or laptop doing calculations separately. Those pools can be built in Africa or the middle east where huge solar panels for example can be installed (as mentioned before funded globally- they will be collectively owned). So it’s important to design the platform in such a way that pushes the energy demand toward renewable energy by constructing those pools. Also, it’s important to ask people like Sadiq Khan (who have proved their commitment to environmental preservation) to be involved in this project.

Fortunately, there are numerous prominent Indian-British individuals. It’s important to gather them together as India is an important country. The connection between India and Britain is beyond individuals.

I arrived in Konya on Monday. This is a very different city compared to the two other cities I visited previously. It’s a very exciting experience, a mixture of tradition and modernity.

Unfortunately, Amazon countries didn’t reach an agreement to end deforestation by 2030. Although Sunak also plans to expand oil exploration, any comparison between him and Lula da Silva is an insult to Lula, given his achievements in reducing deforestation during 2023 (Sunak thinks about votes only and so cannot be part of any plan). Governments, such as the current Brazilian government, which is committed to environmental issues, should be incentivized to move away from oil explorations and toward a green economy. And a green economy doesn’t mean opposing growth, instead seeking growth thru other channels, replacing oil profit with more sustainable profit. And this is a trade-off.

Sunak should be reminded what trade-off means. Insisting to get something at all costs, inevitably removes other opportunities.

W3 – 5 Aug 2023 – UPDATE 1 – Phys

Two days ago I thought the new version was complete but when I was reading it again I realized there are ambiguities and new things should be defined and constructed. I think only one new thing should be added so that the new version is complete, but, again, new errors might be found as I’m proceeding. Also since the structure has been modified a lot maybe there is a simpler, more concise way to organize it. Currently based on R, a vector space is built and then the vector space is used to construct an extended version of R. It might be unclear for readers but I couldn’t think of any other way to construct the extended R.

A new zero zone should be added. I’ll finish this version and then rewrite it because some of the functions should be constructed again. It’ll be submitted when the revision is done.

I read that protesters had attached posters to Sunak’s house objecting to new oil licenses. For me, the only tangible reason for new licences was that producing oil in a different part of the world and then shipping it to another place would be much more polluting than producing it locally. But this would be correct if it would not increase overall world production. In reality, this will reduce the price as there is more supply and will increase consumption. So eventually it will be much more polluting.

I travelled to Eskisehir yesterday via train. Found a very nice cafe shop near the hotel and worked on the article there this morning. Now I’m going to a park nearby.

It’s interesting that All my internet activities are being tracked and controlled and influenced and then they ask me not to use Google Maps for example. Then you should stop blocking other apps and stop controlling all my internet activities. Remember you didn’t invent the internet. Google shouldn’t be allowed to use the internet too.

If you want me to stop using those apps you should stop controlling my internet activities. Then I’ll be more than happy to use other equally handy apps.

I’ll probably upload version 2 today. This is the precise version of the article I uploaded a while ago and includes article 4 only. So tomorrow, I will start working on article 5, then articles 1 and 2 should be added, then probably article 5. and then velocities greater than c.

So the article I’m currently working on is the first article of the book.

My plan has been affected by the banking issue I encountered. I hope it will be done today. Also, I should find a balance between working on the book and living in a foreign country and becoming familiar with other countries. It seems the best option is to bring my laptop and other stuff out with me and work on the book in coffee shops and develop other ideas when walking in the streets.

I thought there would be climbing and things like that too. I brought a huge boot which is strange in the middle of the summer but it’s difficult to buy a suitable show and carry this huge boot everywhere. A little bit of compulsory strangeness is not bad, it will be a few weeks.

W3 – 31 July 2023 – UPDATE 1 – Social

When oil companies can increase their profit by increasing production, they will increase production. Profit-seeking pushes oil and fossil fuel companies forward. There should be other forces in other directions that slow them down. Social demonstrations are important but as long as there is no mechanism to direct those forces in the opposite direction (that is to economically encourage those companies to turn to other areas to earn profit), there will be little effect.

In some countries, smoking companies should inform smokers about the damage smoking causes (for example by printing images of smokers’ lungs on the box, etc). This also has little effect, but the main idea that smoking companies exert a force against themselves is interesting. This can be used in the fossil fuel context. If the tax those companies pay (until a robust reputation system is developed, taxation seems to be the only solution) is used to fund companies working on green energy and ways to limit fossil fuel consumption, the more profit fossil companies earn, the more fund will be available in the sector operating in the opposite direction. Currently, the tax fossil fuel companies pay might be used in social services etc. but if those taxes are exclusively used in the green industry fossil companies will be running against themselves.

UPDATE 1:

A while ago I wrote that tackling the climate crisis (compensating the damages caused in countries due to climate change, reaching net zero emission, etc.) should be in the form of insurance. Countries willingly invest in defence to protect themselves against possible future threats. Tackling climate change should also be looked at as a type of investment for future protection. Climate change disrupts societies, causes huge displacements and numerous other issues. So a global institution is required that operates as a climate insurance company. It sells insurance, invests and pays compensation and develops mechanisms to minimize possible future damages.

I could eventually run the other GPS app I couldn’t use the first day. It does all I need except being blocked all the time. This is how Google competes with its competitors. They hope I will be tired and use Google Maps again but it has the opposite effect.

UPDATE 1:

It more or less stopped working again. I might use Google Maps again but by no means it implies this is the app of my choice, far from it.

The most important thing for me is how big companies compete with apps providing similar services.

W2 – 27 July 2023 – Diary

I’ll be moving to a new hotel today. The day I arrived in Istanbul, I tried to use several GPS apps but non of them worked. So in some ways, I was pushed to use Google Maps and I’ve been using that ever since. This was my first experience using it because I used to use other apps in the past but since they were local and global apps stopped working I had to use Google Maps on this trip. This is a very practical app, no doubt. The issue is the centralization of technology which should definitely be avoided in the future. So being pushed to use Google Maps and trying to decentralize technology are different issues and shouldn’t be confused with one another.

The other issue is that when I travel alone, I do it my way.

I think I’ll go to Izmit on Saturday. I plan to stay in each city for around a week.
